Abstinence - Why Uncool?

Sex. More and more, it is less a taboo than it used to be. Years and years ago, we would gasp at the very mention of the word. Now, it's like an everyday thing we hear on TV, see in movies, or hear around.
Sex is a very personal issue, yet still people will broadcast things in public that we really don't want to hear. Hello people - too much information. To be honest, it makes me very uncomfortable to walk around and hear other girls talking what condoms are the best, what they did, what you shouldn't do. Like we really want to hear that crap.
Abstinence. Yep, that's right kids. I said it, you heard right. Abstinence - the with-holding of sex. No, it's not the cool option, it's not the fast lane. But is sex really the ticket to a great love life?
I dig it. Sex is something each person should make their own decision about. Why does saying no have to be so weird? Is our society so drenched in sex, that it makes you weird to "not get it"? In movies, the good girl cracks and "does it" because hell, waiting is for squares.
For some of us, abstinence is a religious decision. For some, it's a moral decision. For some… we just aren't ready. Why is this debatable? Why are we waiting-folk felt like we're left in the dust?
I think too many young people make the decision to have sex for the wrong reasons. Some people think they'll be laughed at if they don't do it, and some think it could be the saving grace of their relationship. Maybe some think sex will bring them closer to their partner… maybe, maybe not.
When you're thinking about sex, think about STD's. Think about birth control. Think about all the factors in what you are about to do. Think, think, think! What are you doing? Is it the right time? Is he ready? Is she ready?
What an aweful feeling to be laughed at for one's moral decisions. Next time you're laughing, remember me. Remember the kid who's waiting until they are ready.
